Ryan Reynolds announced major casting news on Instagram on March 9 (check out his clever photo below). Actress Zazie Beetz has been cast in “Deadpool 2” as Domino. Beetz is currently best known for her breakout role in the Golden Globe winning FX comedy series “Atlanta.”
Domino is a superhero from the “X-Men” universe who can alter the laws of probability in addition to her exceptional combat skills. Despite 10 previous “X-Men” films and spin-offs, this will be the first depiction of Domino on the big screen. The comic book character did, however, make brief appearances in TV animated series in the 1990s and 2000s.
“Deadpool” exceeded expectations when it was released in theaters in February 2016, making a killing at the box office with $783 million grossed worldwide. It was also a hit with critics and the industry, winning Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Comedy and Best Actor in a Comedy (Reynolds) and picking up Best Picture nominations at the Golden Globes and Producers Guild Awards.
Another R-rated superhero movie, “Logan,” opened in March with a brief teaser for “Deadpool 2” that generated almost as much buzz as the film it preceded.
