Ellie Kemper (‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’) rows her way to a scholarship at Columbia [Exclusive Emmy Episode]

Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Ellie Kemper is entering the “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” episode “Kimmy Goes to College” as her Emmy submission for Best Comedy Actress. This installment of the Netflix program streamed May 19 and was the 4th episode of season 3. For this segment, Kimmy (Kemper) is now working for TaskRabbit performing odd jobs for random people. While running an erand to Columbia University, she shows off her rowing skills to some girls in the dorm. Her physical skills actually get her an athletic scholarship to the prestigious school.

Kemper is facing off with Julia Louis-Dreyfus (“Veep”), who has won this Emmy category five straight years. They are both up against seven-time winner Allison Janney (“Mom”) plus past champions Pamela Adlon (“Better Things”), Jane Fonda (“Grace and Frankie”), and Lily Tomlin (“Grace and Frankie”), plus previous nominee Tracee Ellis Ross (“Black-ish”).

She now has two consecutive Emmy nominations following two at the SAG Awards. The Screen Actors Guild also nominated her as part of the ensembles for “The Office” (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013) and “Bridesmaids” (2012).
