TV academy to Emmy voters: Nomination ballots due by 10 p.m. PT on June 26

Our pal Pete Hammond, who covers the awards beat for Deadline, is reporting that the TV academy has sent its 21,000 members a last-minute email reminder that the deadline for completing the online Emmy nominations ballot is 10 p.m. PT on Monday, June 26. As Pete points out, the process is somewhat time-consuming, given the sheer number of submission in each category.

Regardless of their branch, all of the TV academy voters can cast nomination ballots for program nominations (save for animated documentary/nonfiction which are restricted to their peer groups.) When they log-in to vote, they will have to choose among 710 programs spread across 13 categories. For the first time, there is no cap on the number of programs that they can select per category. Drama Series has the most entries (180) followed by Comedy (104). At the other end, there are 18 shows contending for variety sketch while 20 are in contention for variety talk.

Members of the performers and casting branches of the academy can also vote for as many of their favorite performers of the year as they wish. Across the six drama series acting races, there are 1,157 entries while the equivalent comedy contenders number 817 and there are 306 submitted in the four movie/limited series categories.

Nominations will be announced at the TV academy’s headquarters in North Hollywood on July 13; last year’s big reveal was on July 14. The final round of voting begins online on August 14 and again runs for a full two weeks until Aug. 28; last year’s two-week voting period began Aug. 15.

For the second time, the Creative Arts section of the Emmy Awards has been split into two ceremonies which will take place on September 9 and 10. The Primetime awards will be handed out on Sept. 17.
