Emmys add new categories: Reality Show Casting, Music Supervision, three more in Interactive Media

The Creative Arts Emmys has already been split into two to accommodate the growing number of awards handed out. On Friday (Feb. 24), the TV academy announced that there will be a slew of new categories added to this year’s roster, including Best Music Supervision and Best Reality Casting as well as four more in the burgeoning field of interactive media.

As per the announcement:

Best Music Supervision
Will acknowledge the creative contributions made by the music supervisor to the music of any television program.

Best Reality Casting
Will recognize casting directors responsible for identifying and assembling ensemble casts for structured, unstructured or competition programs within the Reality genre

In addition, the Board of Governors approved the division of the Single-Camera Cinematography award into separate ones for half-hour and hour-long series.

And the interactive slate just got a lot bigger, with the current Best Interactive Program prize getting a companion called Best Original Interactive Program. In addition, there will be new awards recognizing creative achievement in both scripted and unscripted interactive media. And there is to be a juried prize for innovation in interactive programming.
