‘Full Frontal with Samantha Bee’: Donald Trump’s week wasn’t just bad, it was covfefe [WATCH]

“Sometimes I tease the president, but tonight I want to salute him for keeping a campaign promise,” said Samantha Bee in the first segment of the May 31 episode of “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.” “Last might for five blessed hours Donald Trump made America truly great.” She’s not talking about Trump risking the planet by potentially exiting the Paris Climate Agreement. Of course she’s talking about the commander-in-chief’s baffling late-night Twitter typo when he posted a message with the not-a-word “covfefe.” Watch Bee try to wrap her mind around the strange news story above.

“Trump is right, he really does have the best words, and he spelled it right: ‘V’ before ‘E’ except after ‘Z,'” Bee explained about the new language Trump is apparently inventing. “The Twitterverse greeted ‘covfefe’s’ arrival with unfettered rapture. For that glorious interlude between midnight and 5:00 AM we were like passengers on the Titanic who decided to say ‘F*ck it!’ and rock out to the band.”

But Bee doesn’t neglect the context — yes, there’s context, even for “covfefe.” It was the end of a Twitter drought for the leader of the free world, who had spent several days overseas actually trying to lead the free world, by celebrating the sale of an “ass-ton” of weapons to Saudi Arabia and alienating European allies by equivocating about the Paris Agreement, the international effort to mitigate the effects of climate change. And when he returned home he was greeted with controversy about his son-in-law Jared Kushner‘s alleged efforts to set up a communications back-channel with Russia.

So yes, Trump had another challenging week, so much so that you’d have to invent a word to describe it — covfefe indeed.
