For the second time, Gold Derby users cast votes for themselves and each other to win the Derbyite Awards, which acknowledge the best contributions in our forums, the best Gold Derby editors, the best experts, and the all-around best derbyites of the year. Dish the Derbyite Awards with Hollywood insiders in our notorious forums
The big winner was 24Emmy, our longtime stalwart forum poster responsible for more than 300 topics and more than 8,000 posts. He won top honors, Derbyite of the Year, as well as Best TV Forums Poster. Also winning twice was Sasha who was named Funniest Derbyite and Bitchiest Derbyite. Writer and contributing writer Riley Chow picked up two awards as well: Best Forums Poster and Best Forums Debater. And the Best Breakthrough Poster was GusCruz.
In the races to determine the best of the best pro pundits making their predictions at Gold Derby, our users picked Anne Thompson (IndieWire) as the Best Oscars Expert, while Gold Derby’s own Tom O’Neil was named the Best Emmys Expert. Another pundit who is a member of the Gold Derby editorial team, Paul Sheehan, claimed the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Surprising no one more than me, our users voted me Best Editor, Best Film Forums Poster and Most Dedicated Fanboy/Fangirl — a moment to shamelessly plug my “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” gallery of the best episodes of all time in case anyone doubts my fanboy bona fides. And Oscar winning “Moonlight” writer-director Barry Jenkins, whom I was honored to interview with Zach Laws, was Gold Derby’s choice for Best Celebrity Interview (watch it here). To quote Stephen Colbert‘s 2008 Emmy acceptance speech, “Oh Hollywood, all is forgiven.”
