Half of the results on “Dancing with the Stars” are determined by the scores from the judges, but the other half come from fans voting for their favorites at home. And though we always know exactly where the stars stand with the judges it’s harder to get a clear sense of viewers’ tastes. But this week’s YouTube stats suggest that singer Normani Kordei is the most popular dancer of week three, “Vegas Night.”
“Dancing with the Stars” released all of Monday night’s performances on YouTube, and as of this writing Kordei leads the way with 244,000 views. This is her first time ending the week as the most streamed routine. It doesn’t hurt that her “Big Spender” foxtrot with Val Chmerkovskiy was the highest scoring routine of the season so far with 34 out of 40 from the judges, placing her at the top of the leaderboard.
Actress Heather Morris is next with 191,000 online views. Maybe it’s the power of Britney Spears. Morris performed a tango to Spears’s “Toxic” and got her highest judges’ scores of the season so far (33 out of 40), which put her in second place on this week’s leaderboard.
Consistently one of the most watched contestants online, David Ross has the third most popular YouTube clip with 130,000 views. His “Magic Mike”-inspired striptease jazz routine was certainly one of the most memorable. He finished fifth on the judges’ leaderboard, but his score was still impressive: 31 out of 40, just three points out of first place.
Gymnast Simone Biles, who was last week’s most streamed contestant, is still one of the top competitors in week three thanks to her quickstep that placed her fourth on the leaderboard with a score of 32 out of 40. She would have done even better if judge Carrie Ann Inaba hadn’t penalized her for a lift she perceived during the routine, but I’m guessing Biles’s fans didn’t hold that against her.
Rounding out the top five is Rashad Jennings with 86,000. Even though he had his lowest-scoring routine of the season so far — an imperfect samba that was received 28 out of 40 from the judges — he still ranks higher than he did last week when he had his highest-scoring dance. He was sixth among streamed performances last week, so this is a step up.
Of course, YouTube views don’t mean a thing if those viewers aren’t voting when it counts, but it could give us a glimpse into who is making the biggest impact on the audience. Take a look below at this week’s most watched YouTube performance videos as of this writing. The exact numbers change by the minute as more people stream the performances, so the rankings are what really count.
