‘Game of Thrones’ episode 5 preview: Is Daenerys breaking bad? [WATCH]

“I’m not here to murder,” says Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) to her vanquished foes in the preview for the upcoming fifth episode of season seven (watch above). “Bend the knee and join me, or refuse and die.” It sure sounds like the Mother of Dragons, who won loyalty from her armies by freeing them from oppressors, is starting to turn to the dark side. Is the Breaker of Chains starting to become the Bender of Knees? Vote in our poll at the bottom of this post to let us know what you think.

Many in the Seven Kingdoms are understandably skeptical of Dany’s intentions. After all her father was the Mad King, who almost destroyed King’s Landing rather than give up power to Robert Baratheon. As we’ve gotten to know her over the seasons, we’ve seen her moral compass point mostly towards freedom, though she does have a vengeful streak that has led her to brutal retaliations, including her execution of more than a hundred slavers after liberating Meereen.

But while she was previously driven to stand up for the oppressed and earn people’s loyalty, now she seems more intent on just demanding loyalty, as she did when she insisted that King of the North Jon Snow (Kit Harington) bend the knee at their very first meeting. And we hear she’s considering Anthony Scaramucci for her new Hand of the Queen.

“You need to find a way to make her listen,” says Varys (Conleth Hill) to Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) in the preview. Will it be too late? Vote below, and join the discussion on this and more in our forums.
