‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 spoilers: First 3 episode titles and descriptions reveal secrets

Game of Thrones” returns on July 16 and HBO has released the titles of the first three of the seven episodes . As always, the titles don’t give much away about what will happen but we have our theories based on the accompanying descriptions. Take a read of what we think will unfold and then chime in with your thoughts at the bottom of this post.

The Season 7 premiere is entitled “Dragonstone,”which is the name of the ancetral home of the Targaryens.  The official synopsis makes mention of three of the main players of the game: “Jon (Kit Harington) organizes the defense of the North. Cersei (Lena Headey) tries to even the odds. Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) comes home.”

We saw these three in the trailer, with each approaching the Iron Throne. We already knew that Jon was in command of an army that was preparing to invade. Cersei faces foes from all sides who opposed her regime, including Danenrys who is homeward bound. In addition, Theon (Alfie Allen) and Yara (Gemma Whelan) have sent ships.

The follow-up episode, “Stormborn,” sounds jam-packed: “Daenerys receives an unexpected visitor. Jon faces a revolt. Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) plans the conquest of Westeros.” This second mention signals that Daenerys is to be a major player in the game this season.

As she is at Dragonstone, it would make sense that her visitor is Jon as he needs dragonglass to arm the White Walkers. And he needs to tamp down resistance to his rule, as Littlefinger (Aiden Gillan) manipulates those who want power for themselves. We already knew that Tyrion had his sights set on Westeros. But he may well be planning to do so via alliances rather than armies.

The third installment, “The Queen’s Justice,” was also directed by Mark Mylod, which could mean that it follows directly on from the second episode. “Daenerys holds court. Cersei returns a gift. Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) learns from his mistakes.”

Again, Daenerys gets first mention over Cersei. The notion of her holding court suggests that those in her alliance, including Jon, will come together. That mention of a gift is puzzling as with Cersei this could mean either an object or an offer of help. As for the mistake made by Jaime, there are a slew to choose from, including his decision to align himself with his sister in more ways than one.
