Our forum posters have been fiercely debating this year’s Golden Globe TV nominations. They were generally happy with the contenders, which included Caitriona Balfe (“Outlander”) and Katherine Langford (“13 Reasons Why”) in Best TV Drama Actress. However, they were furious with the snubs for Emmy favorite “Veep” and star Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Best Comedy Series and Best TV Comedy Actress.
Below, see a sampling of our reader’s diverse cheers and jeers, and then be sure to join the free-wheeling discussion in our forums.
Best TV Drama Series
kancox: Oops, I forgot. I was expecting Mindhunter at least.
Best TV Drama Actor
Philip: Grr Groff was snubbed!
OscarsAreStupid: And I am disgusted when it comes to treatment of Freddie Highmore. They have been snubbing him year after year for his outstanding performance on Bates Motel and when they finally decide to nominate him, they nominate him for the ABC medical procedural when he was still eligible for Bates Motel?! A fucking abomination!
Kancov: They snubbed James Franco, too? A bit surprising.
Best TV Drama Actress
Stretchy: Yep, it happened. Katherine fucking Langford. lol
heyoranges: Katherine Langford?! Awesome!
Riley: Caitriona Balfe was nominated because they could not let that happen.
Best TV Comedy/Musical Series
Teridax: I only correctly predicted Will & Grace for Musical/Comedy Series. No Curb Your Enthusiasm is somewhat shocking, the Mozart in the Jungle snub slightly more so, since I heard the most recent season was their best ever.
EmmyWinner: So happy for Will & Grace!
Philip: OMG how did they snub Glow!
Guest2014: “The Good Place”: Are you forking kidding me? No Ted Danson! (And the HFPA even invited Kristen Bell to help announce nominees on Monday morning, only to snub her show!) Despite critical raves, the NBC comedy was set aside for another popular NBC comedy, “Will & Grace.”
Best TV Comedy/Musical Actor
queenbee: I am so happy for Eric McCormick. The other three characters are SUCH BIG over the top performances, and he often has to do more understated stuff and in turn doesn’t get the due recognition. This is his moment.
jf123: Kevin Bacon is the most Golden Globes thing ever, I’m so mad I didn’t predict him lol
Best TV Comedy/Musical Actress
Philip: NO DEBRA MESSING!!!! GRR!!!! HAHA MS BELL SAT THERE AND DIDN’T GET NOMINATED LOL! HAPPY FOR SMILF!!!
queenbee: NO VEEP? NO JULIA? Tasteless and classless, the lot of ’em.
Atypical: Such a Globes thing to do to snub Tracee Ellis Ross the year after she lands a historic win. Sad.
Best TV Movie/Limited Series
forwardswill: Disappointed for Godless but unsurprised. Also, that Supporting Actor category is a joke.
Nate: In longform, things ran much truer to form. The Sinner still surprised me, and as a result, Twin Peaks gets in for MacLachlan but not the show and Top of the Lake gets in for program but not for Moss.
boss: Not to mention The Sinner over AHS: Cult, Twin Peaks, Godless.
Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actor
bondzzz: I actually thought of removing Geoffrey Rush but thought it was prop too late to affect him. Seeing that now he sues the publication and if it goes his way, it might push him to a win though. Surprised and yet not surprised Veep and JDL was left off. Surprised bout the SMILF nod though.
Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actress
Nate: And to me, that Carrie Coon snub is the worst, so far at least.
Best TV Supporting Actor
Teridax: WHO THE F**K did Christian Slater blackmail/bribe/brainwash to get another nomination for Mr. Robot?!
Laurent: So happy for David Harbour!
eric: Evan Peters snub is disgusting, but I’m so happy for Michelle Pfeiffer’s nom.
Best TV Supporting Actress
boss: So many undeserving nominees. Yvonne Strahovski is still snubbed for The Handmaid’s Tale over Ann Dowd. Really?!
Andrew D: WTF No Magan, NO Sean, No Debra. NO VEEP… NO KIMMY SCHMIDT… I CANT EVEN
EmmyWinner: Shame on you HFPA for buying that Shailene category fraud bullshit! Mullally should have been nominated over her.
