With the Grammy Awards being held in 10 days on Sunday, February 12, live on CBS, our music experts have now chimed in with their predictions for who will win on music’s biggest night, and with 4/9 odds from our eight Experts, Beyonce (“Lemonade”) is predicted to win Album of the Year. It would be the first win in that category for Beyonce, despite the fact that she has won 20 Grammys thus far in her career, which makes her the second most awarded woman in history.
Six of our eight Experts are predicting a Beyonce victory: Edna Gundersen
(Gold Derby), Tom O’Neil (Gold Derby), Lyndsey Parker (Yahoo Music), Paul Sheehan (Gold Derby), Adnan Virk (ESPN) and Chris Willman (Gold Derby)
In second place is Adele (“25”) with 3/1 odds; the two Experts picking her to win are Joyce Eng (TV Guide) and Glenn Gamboa (Newsday). Adele has won 10 Grammys, half as many as Beyonce, but Adele has only ever lost three times, and not once since 2010. Also, unlike Beyonce, Adele is already a proven winner for Album of the Year, having prevailed for “21” in 2012. Artists don’t often win the top category multiple times, but last year the recording academy gave Taylor Swift her second AOTY title for “1989,” so we know they’re willing to make an exception.
According to our overall combined odds featuring the predictions of all Experts, Editors, Top 24 Users (those who did the best at their winner picks last year), All Star Top 24 (who got the highest scores when you combine the last two years’ Grammy winners) and All Users, the rankings are the same. The favored pick of over 900 people is Beyonce with 4/9 odds over Adele with 14/5 odds. Simpson follows with 50/1 odds, and then Drake at 50/1 and Bieber at 66/1.
Our Editors are nearly unanimous, with five out of six of us betting on Beyonce: Chris Beachum, Rob Licuria, O’Neil, Sheehan and myself. Meanwhile, Marcus James Dixon is betting on a repeat victory for Adele.
The Top 24 Users are split, but heavily favor Beyonce, with 17 of them backing her to win including Charles Bright, who got the highest score predicting last year’s winners with 90% accuracy. The other seven top users are forecasting Adele.
Our All-Star Top 24 are divided in exactly the same way, with 17 betting on Beyonce and the last seven favoring Adele.
