
It goes without saying that no one has had a better comeback story this awards season than Mel Gibson with “Hacksaw Ridge.” His WWII epic about a U.S. Army Medic (Andrew Garfield) who served during the Battle of Okinawa while refusing to carry a weapon snagged six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor. Garfield recently sat down with Gold Derby to discuss his role in the film.

“I’m not going to complain about it,” admits Garfield about the recognition. “I feel very grateful about it and very surprised and moved by it. It’s lovely to feel like your work is being appreciated.”
