Emmy nominee Kassie DePaiva returns to ‘Days of Our Lives’ after beating cancer

Eve Donovan is returning to Salem. Soap Opera Digest recently reported that actress Kassie DePaiva is filming her comeback on NBC’s daytime soap “Days of Our Lives” after a battle with cancer, with her new episodes set to premiere in late October.

DePaiva joined “Days” in the role of Eve in 2014 and stayed with the series until 2016. She was set to return later in 2016, but as she explained on her website at the time, “I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and have spent 6 of the last 9 weeks in the hospital. I will continue treatment over the next 3 months. My prognosis is good, I will not likely need a stem cell/bone marrow transplant, and we expect a complete cure.” Thankfully, she announced on Facebook this past February that she was cancer-free, and now she’s back to work.

DePaiva’s time on the show included a storyline in which Eve had an affair with her daughter’s boyfriend. Her performance earned her a Daytime Emmy nomination for Best Actress in 2016, and that storyline won an Emmy for her on-screen daughter True O’Brien as Best Younger Actress. That was DePaiva’s second career bid; she had been previously nominated for Best Actress in 2005 for “One Life to Live,” where she played her most famous role, Blair Cramer, for 19 years (1993-2012) until “OLTL” was cancelled by the ABC network. DePaiva then reprised her role as Blair when the series had a short-lived revival online in 2013.
