At Wednesday’ CMT Awards, Keith Urban walked away with a leading four awards, including one for his collaboration with Carrie Underwood on “The Fighter.” These long-time friends took to the stage of the Music City Center to perform a heart-felt version of this song that Urban penned for his wife Nicole Kidman, who watched on from the audience. You can watch their performance above.
Each time that Urban and Underwood sing this track together, they bring something new to it. After more upbeat versions at the Grammys in February and the ACM Awards in April, this time around they slowed the tempo down. The radio version, off of Urban’s 2016 album “Ripcord,” got to No. 2 on the Billboard country songs chart and has an underlying dance beat.
Each also won on their own at the CMT Awards, with Urban taking the top prize of Video of the Year as well as Male Video for “Blue Ain’t Your Color” while Underwood claimed Female Video for “Church Bells.”
