Oscar voters get DVD screener of Greta Gerwig’s ‘Lady Bird’ with Saoirse Ronan and Laurie Metcalf

Greta Gerwig‘s character study “Lady Bird” kicked off awards season with a bang by winning Best Picture from the New York Film Critics Circle. And Saoirse Ronan, — who plays Christine “Lady Bird” Macpherson, a teenager looking to spread her wings — won Best Actress from the Gotham scribes. Since then the film has won over three other critics groups – Chicago, Indiana, Vancouver — while Ronan has racked up four more wins. And Gerwig has been named Best Director by four regional critical groups as well.

But the big awards winner from the film has been Laurie Metcalf for her featured role as Christine’s beleaguered mother Marion. The Tony and Emmy champ has won a whopping 15 critics prizes, thus widening her lead over her Best Supporting Actress Oscar rival, Allison Janney (“I, Tonya”) who has four.

Academy members just got a screener DVD of this critical darling and will be watching it over the holidays in anticipation of Oscar nominations voting kicking off on Jan. 5.
