The highly anticipated Disney musical “Beauty and the Beast” will be released in theaters this Friday, March 17, so co-star Luke Evans visited “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” to talk about his role as Gaston, who is the story’s principal villain, but Evans thinks he’s “quite a lovable rogue. I want people to like him a little bit so that when he really turns into the monster at the end you’re questioning your moral compass.” On top of that, the actor says, “I got to sing, which was obviously my first passion. I come from musical theater.”
And boy does he ever like to sing! After embarrassing Evans by showing his shirtless photos (an “Ellen” tradition for hunky first-time male guests), she makes him even more red in the face by showing a video of him (shirtless again) singing along with Adele‘s “When We Were Young.” That video was for his mother, actually. He explains, “I Facetime my mom when I learn a new song.” So Gaston may be a bad boy, but Evans appears to be a softie at heart. He even sings a verse of “When We Were Young” to “Ellen” after she surprises him with a special gag gift: a shower curtain with a cut-out for his face so he really can sing to Adele in the shower — shirtless, one presumes.
