Milo Ventimiglia (‘This Is Us’) ends season in drunken rage and possible crumbling of marriage [Exclusive Emmy Episode]

Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Milo Ventimiglia is entering the “This Is Us” episode “Moonshadow” as his Emmy submission for Best Drama Actor. This installment of the NBC program aired March 14 and was the 18th and final episode of the first season. In this segment filled with flashbacks, the audience sees how Jack (Ventimiglia) originally met Rebecca (Mandy Moore), who would become his wife later on. It’s filled with drunken rages, punching an unwanted suitor of hers, a seedy poker game, and a beating and robbery of his own. The season ends with an apology but a possible crumbling split between the now married couple (“And our love story, I know it may not feel like it right now, but I promise you, it’s just getting started”).

Rami Malek (“Mr. Robot”), last year’s winner for this category, is not returning this time, so Ventimiglia is in a competition with past winners Sterling K. Brown (co-star on “This Is Us”), Anthony Hopkins (“Westworld”) and Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul”), and returning nominees Matthew Rhys (“The Americans”), Liev Schreiber (“Ray Donovan”), and Kevin Spacey (“House of Cards”).

Ventimgilia is a first-time nominee at the Emmys Awards and has actually picked up the first major awards nomination of his career. He also won the Tearjerker Award for his scene with the young Randall (Lonnie Chavis) at this summer’s MTV Movie and TV Awards. His past regular TV roles have included “American Dreams,” “Gilmore Girls,” “Heroes,” and “The Whispers.”
