Minnie Driver (‘Speechless’): Which episode should she submit to Emmy judges? [POLL]

“I think it’s very difficult to judge yourself,” Minnie Driver told us during our recent video chat (watch above) about which episode of the ABC comedy series “Speechless” she should submit to Emmy judges this year if she’s nominated for Best Comedy Actress. “Speechless” just concluded its first season on Wednesday night, May 17, so out of those 23 episodes, which do you think represented Driver’s best work? In our poll below you can pick from every single episode this season.

Driver plays Maya DiMeo, the mother of three children, one of whom has cerebral palsy and is nonverbal, so he communicates with the aid of a word board. The series premiered last fall and was nominated for a Writers Guild Award for Best Episodic Comedy for the episode “R-a-y-c-Ray-Cation.” More recently the show was singled out by the TV Academy Honors, which celebrate programs that shed light on social and cultural issues. Now it enters an Emmy race where ABC has been especially strong in comedy categories lately, earning Best Comedy Series nominations last year for both “Modern Family” and “Black-ish.”

Driver has been in this position before. In 2007 she was nominated for Best Drama Actress for the acclaimed but short-lived FX series “The Riches,” and she submitted the pilot. Sally Field won that year for the “Brothers and Sisters” episode “Mistakes Were Made, Part 2.” But it’s difficult to evaluate your own work. She admits, “Sometimes I just think my bum looks fat, and I’ll think, that wasn’t funny, I just had a fat bum and that’s all I can look at. I think you need other people. I’m big on consensus. I’m big on the popular vote … What do you think is funny? Tell me, and I’ll submit it with pleasure.”
