Did that third consecutive SAG Comedy Ensemble win for “Orange is the New Black” in January make you miss this Netflix series even more? Good news then as the wait is finally over with the streaming service releasing all 13 episodes of season five of this compelling hour-long show on June 9.
The first episode picks up immediately after the season four cliffhanger with Daya Diaz (Dascha Polanco) in a showdown with two guards during a riot that broke out after the Pousey (Samira Wiley) was killed. Also seen in this jam-packed opener are series lead Taylor Schilling (Piper), Emmy nominee Kate Mulgrew, scene-stealer Natasha Lyonne (Nicky) and Laura Prepon (Alex) among others.
“Orange is the New Black,” which has already been renewed for seasons six and seven, has been an awards magnet from its debut in 2013. Besides those three group SAG Awards, Uzo Aduba won Comedy Actress twice (2015, 2016) and both the guest comedy and supporting drama actress Emmys in 2014 and 2015 respectively.
