Longtime ABC personality Jimmy Kimmel has finally landed his dream job — hosting the Oscars. He joins a list of late-night TV talk show hosts like David Letterman (1995) and Jon Stewart (2006, 2008) to emcee Hollywood’s biggest night, but they received mixed reviews from Oscar fans. See all of the Oscar hosts through the years. Now that we’ve seen Kimmel’s monologue, we want to know how you thought he did as Oscars host. Was he amazing, forgettable or, as President Donald Trump may tweet in a few hours, “sad”? Vote in our poll below.
Recently, Kimmel earned acclaim from fans and critics alike for his job hosting the Emmy Awards in September. Like his show “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and the Oscars, that edition of TV’s top honors aired on ABC. He also emceed the Emmys back in 2012, the last time it was on ABC, and presided over the network’s American Music Awards in 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Kimmel follows two recent hosts who didn’t earn the best reviews for hosting the Oscars, Chris Rock (2016) and Neil Patrick Harris (2015). Many consider 2014’s host Ellen DeGeneres as the best of modern times thanks in part to the impromptu celebrity selfie she took with the likes of Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Brad Pitt.
