For the four acting races, Gold Derby as a whole correctly predicted Emma Stone (“La La Land”), Mahershala Ali (“Moonlight”) and Viola Davis (“Fences”), but how was Casey Affleck (“Manchester by the Sea”) able to pull off that jawdropper against Denzel Washington (“Fences”)? We try to explain that upset as well as many others in our slugfest video above.

Dish the Oscars with Hollywood insiders in our notorious forums

Amazingly, only two of our 30 film experts predicted that “Moonlight” would beat “La La Land”: Sasha Stone (Awards Daily) and Matt Atchity (Rotten Tomatoes). Among Gold Derby’s seven editors, four of us are tied at the top with 16 correct out of 24 categories (66.67%): Paul, Chris, Daniel and myself. Tom is next with 15/24 right (62.50%). Rob Licuria and Matt Noble follow with 14/24 (58.33%). See editors’ leaderboard.
