We’re predicting that the musical romance “La La Land” will win nine Oscars, including Best Picture, Director (Damien Chazelle) and Actress (Emma Stone). That haul, while impressive, means it will fall shy of the record 11 collected by “Ben-Hur” (1959), “Titanic” (1997) and “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” (2003).
Only two other films are expected to collect more than one Oscar awards. “Fences” will win leading man Denzel Washington his third Oscar and supporting player Viola Davis her first. And Moonlight,” which comes into these awards with eight nominations, is projected to win Best Supporting Actor (Mahershala Ali) and Best Adapted Screenplay.
