Starz has announced that “Outlander” won’t return for its third season until September 2017, which takes it out of the running for the 2017 Emmys, but that’s not the only big news. The show is also moving to the other side of the globe. In March, the series leaves its usual locale of Scotland to begin production in Cape Town, South Africa, for the last five episodes of the season. Stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe filmed a video for fans saying goodbye to Scotland and hello to South Africa (watch below).

“Somewhere, across that vast sea, we are going to the Town of the Cape,” says Balfe. “And we are extremely excited,” adds Heughan. “There’s sunshine apparently — we don’t know what that is.” The weather might be hospitable in the southern hemisphere, but Balfe says, “More importantly, we would like to say a little thank you to the people of Scotland, to all of the Heritage Sites that have welcomed us, and to our amazing crew because without them nothing would get done.”

The move to South Africa will bring Balfe, Heughan and company to the former sets of the Starz series “Black Sails,” which is airing its final episodes now and will conclude in April. Important sea voyage scenes will be shot on those sets, and then production for “Outlander” season three is scheduled to wrap in June.
