The second season of “Outlander” aired from April to July of 2016 and ran for 13 consecutive weeks (unlike the first season that was split in half). The show’s fans from the first season all returned for the next chapter of the “Outlander” love saga, with viewership ratings actually increasing year-to-year. Now that we have a whopping seven months to go until Season 3 debuts, we thought it’d be fun to take a closer look at last year.

Season 2 saw Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) integrate themselves into Parisian society as they try to thwart the efforts of Prince Charles (Andrew Gower) while he tries to raise funds to put an army together in Scotland to overthrow the King of England. As Claire and Jamie mourn the loss of their unborn daughter their efforts to change Scottish history fails. The season ends with Claire and Jamie heart-breakingly separating for the sake of their child. But Season 2 also concludes with hope of a reunion as Claire decides to return possibly with their grown daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton).
‘Outlander’ Season 1: What is your favorite episode from the first season? [POLL]
For its second season “Outlander” received two nominations at the Emmy Awards: Best Costumes and Best Production Design. It lost both races. A possible reason that Starz and “Outlander” might have wanted to move Season 3 to the fall is it might improve their awards chances for the next round of Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards. The Globes again nominated Balfe in 2016 for Drama TV Actress and at the Critics’ Choice the series won Most Bingeworthy Show and was also nominated for its lead stars Heughan and Balfe.
