“A. Malcolm,” the sixth episode of season three of the Starz hit drama “Outlander,” was written by Matthew B. Roberts and directed by Norma Bailey. This is the episode that fans have waited so long to see, as the highly anticipated reunion between Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) is finally realized. After decades apart, they rekindle their emotional and physical bond but Jamie’s new business dealings jeopardize their hopes for a simple life together.
In our ongoing video series, “Outlander” fan Rob Licuria is joined by Amanda Spears to dish the highs and lows of this chapter of the fantasy romance saga This season is based on “Voyager,” Diana Gabaldon’s third novel in the series of books. (Watch above).
“This is the one that everyone’s been waiting for! The print shop and the big reunion between our two lovers who have been separated by time and space,” Licuria gasps. “People have been talking about the print shop for months. Pretty much almost two years we’ve been talking about how good this print shop scene was going to be. For me, it didn’t really disappoint, because we got to see the first perspective in the previous episode, and then this episode we got to rewind a little and see it from Jamie’s perspective,” he says.
“It was about re-establishing a connection, and a bit of loss and coming out of this grief that they have both felt,” Licuria explains. “There was a lot of really complicated emotions in this, which I really appreciated. They are basically strangers again, and they will need to rekindle that relationship and that romance and get to know who they are now as opposed to who they were then.”
Spears agrees that this has been the highlight episode to date, and she hopes awards groups like the Hollywood Foreign Press Association are paying attention. “I just need to know what does Sam Heughan have to do to get a Golden Globe nomination,” she ponders.
