With less than a month to go until “Outlander” returns for season three, we just found out that two of the main characters are destined to have a torrid romance. So says Sophie Skelton, who plays Brianna, the daughter of Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe). At the end of season two, her character met the vicar’s son Roger Wakefield (Richard Rankin). The actress revealed in a recent interview that we can expect to see this burgeoning romance flourish when the Starz costume drama returns on Sept. 10.
We first saw Roger as a young boy, before Claire began her time travels and met Jamie. As the show jumps forward by several decades, he is all grown up as is Sophie. Hoping to mirror the combustible chemistry between the show’s stars, Heughan and Balfe, these two young talents are always talking about the subtext of the relationship between their characters. As Rankin explains, ”It’s obviously important that we get on together and that we’re on the same page. We spend a lot of time together.”
And the actor promises, “there’s going to be massive developments” between these one-time friends. His co-star confirms, “You see a lot more of Brianna and Roger’s relationship coming together and then in an equal amount being sort of torn apart as well.”
