“I got a power inside me. I can command anyone to do my biddin’,” declares Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), the titular “Preacher” in AMC’s official trailer for Season 2 that was released on Thursday (watch above). Car chases, fistfights, guns firing, bombs exploding, characters bickering … that’s just what fans love about “Preacher.” The comic book series returns with a two-night premiere on AMC beginning Sunday, June 25 and concluding June 26 in its regular Monday time slot.
“Preacher” is adapted from the Vertigo comic of the same name that ran from 1995 to 2000. Developed for television by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen (“Superbad,” “Sausage Party”) with Sam Catlin (“Breaking Bad”) serving as showrunner, the TV series tells the story of Jesse Custer, who enlists the help of an Irish vampire (Joseph Gilgun) on his mission to find God. Best Actress Oscar nominee Ruth Negga (“Loving”) also stars as Jesse’s girlfriend, and she gets the last line in the high-octane trailer: “Am I the only one who thinks that’s, like, psychotic?”
The season premiere, titled “On the Road,” is written by Catlin and directed by both Rogen & Goldberg. The first season was highly acclaimed by critics, earning a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 76 score on Metacritic. There are no reviews quite yet for the second season, as they are embargoed until June 5.
Season 2 will consist of 13 episodes, up from only 10 episodes last year. See six first-look photos from Season 2 before the premiere on June 25, and then join the discussion with your fellow TV fans in our famous forums.
