‘Project Runway’: Ayana Ife’s finale collection made modesty ‘sexy,’ but didn’t win season 16 [WATCH]

“I love Ayana. I think she’s beyond talented,” said “Project Runway” judge Zac Posen about finalist Ayana Ife, who brought a unique perspective to season 16 of the fashion competition show by staying true to a modest aesthetic inspired by her Muslim faith. “I think she definitely addresses alternative ways of thinking about fashion, women, their bodies, and their preferences. It’s necessary for everyone to be represented,” added guest judge Jessica Alba. But Ife just missed out on winning season 16. She was named the runner-up, and Kentaro Kameyama prevailed in an upset victory. Did you agree with the results? Watch Ife’s collection above, and scroll down to vote in our poll below.

“It didn’t feel like it was a show where everything was covered up,” said Heidi Klum about how Ife was able to achieve a wide range of stylish looks within the constraints of modest fashion. “And they’re still sexy,” added Posen, “and they’re an empowered sexiness, and I really like that.” But the showstopping look was the elaborate green gown that ended her collection. “I had thought by now I had seen everything that she could do, and then she turned out this finale dress,” raved Nina Garcia. I’ve never seen her do anything like this. That’s extraordinary because that propels you for more growth, and I have continual confidence that she keeps growing and evolving.”

We had predicted that Ife would be the runner-up in the competition after a strong season that included two victories in design challenges and not a single low-scoring look. But we thought she would lose to Brandon Kee, who had been the frontrunner all season but ended up in third place. What did you think of that result? Vote below.
