Amazingly, Rihanna won the role of Marion when “Bates Motel” producers discovered that she was a fan of the show in a magazine interview. For the uninitiated, Marion Crane is the role that earned Janet Leigh an Oscar nomination in the original Alfred Hitchcock film “Psycho.” The character was murdered by Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) rather infamously in that movie while taking a shower.

In the trailer for “Dreams Die First,” Rihanna is seen for just a moment as Marion Crane drives down the road in the middle of a downpour. She notices the iconic “Bates Motel” sign, and that’s when the promo ends. Freddie Highmore‘s creepy Norman has been parading around lately in his dead mother Norma’s (Vera Farmiga) nightgown, so Marion should consider simply speeding ahead and not stopping. But that wouldn’t be any fun, would it?
