‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ available on demand March 24, in stores April 4

Disney just announced that the Oscar-nominated “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” will be available on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere on March 24 while the Blu-ray and DVD will drop on April 4. This Christmas hit continued the franchise comeback that began with 2015’s critically acclaimed “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” This spinoff film, a standalone story set in-between “Episode III: Revenge of the Sith” and “Episode IV: A New Hope,” merited 85% freshness on Rotten Tomatoes.

The story follows Jyn Erso (Oscar nominee Felicity Jones), who leads a group of Rebel spies on a mission to the steal the plans for the Death Star. The film takes back in time to an earlier chapter of the “Star Wars” saga, but it does so with multicultural cast that includes Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen, Donnie Yen and Forest Whitaker.

Our racetrack odds — which are based on the combined Oscar predictions of Gold Derby experts, editors and users — have “Rogue One” ranked fourth for Best Sound Mixing and second for Best Visual Effects at this Sunday’s Academy Awards.

UPDATED: Oscar odds in all 24 categories

The “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” home editions will include features on characters including Jyn Erso, Cassian Andor and K2-SO as well as in-depth looks at the Oscar-nominated visual effects. And it teases a preview of “;Star Wars’ stories yet to be told.” However, don’t expect a commentary from director Gareth Edwards or any deleted scenes.

But don’t despair. Remember that the mouse house held back on these when it first released Blu-Ray and DVD versions of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” last year. But later editions of that J.J. Abrams blockbuster did include these must-haves for “Star Wars” fans.
