‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ predictions: Valentina unseats Aja as the queen to beat, Farrah Moan in danger of elimination

For the first time since Season 9 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” began, Gold Derby predictors like you are giving someone other than Aja the best odds to win. This week Valentina unseats Aja as the queen to beat with leading 7/2 odds in our predictions game. Aja and Sasha Velour, both from Brooklyn, follow closely behind. Is this change a boost of confidence in Valentina or has Aja not lived up to early expectations? Read my analysis of the queens below and then make your predictions in our weekly event.

With three eliminations behind the queens, Valentina has emerged as a judges’ favorite, winning one challenge and placing in the top three on another. The judges have gravitated toward her clean makeup skills as well as her confident and bubbly performances both in the challenges and on the runway. Aja, on the other hand, has taken a lot of hits from the judges, mostly for her poor presentation on the runway with regard to costuming and makeup.

Two weeks ago Aja had to lip synch for her life and though she comfortably beat Kimora Blac in that event, her placement at the bottom of that challenge left her shook. I fear that if Aja doesn’t pull out a competition win soon she’ll never gain the confidence it takes to win. That being said, a turn-around in her attitude could lead to a substantial comeback narrative by the end of the season that would impress the judges.

‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ winners poll: 47% say Bianca Del Rio is their favorite queen to reign

On this week’s episode, “Reality Stars: The Musical,” RuPaul Charles and his panel of judges will ask another queen to “sashay away” in 11th place. Last week the racetrack odds had Peppermint as the most likely to go home in 12th, but she escaped that elimination and Charlie Hides was sent packing instead.

This week Farrah Moan is on the chopping block with leading 4/1 odds of going home, someone who’s failed to leave any impression, good or bad, on the judges yet. Also in danger is Peppermint (11/2 odds) and Trinity Taylor (10/1 odds), who lip synched for her life last week even though she had won the previous challenge and placed in the top two before that.
