Our forum posters have been fiercely debating this years SAG film nominations. They were mostly excited by the nominations for Best Ensemble, which included “The Big Sick,” “Get Out,” “Lady Bird,” “Mudbound,” and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.” On the other hand, they were shocked by the snubs for “The Post,” “Call Me By Your Name,” and “The Shape of Water” in the category.
“The Post,” in fact, laid an unexpected goose egg, missing out for Oscar contenders Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks in Best Actress and Actor. Another on-paper Best Actor frontrunner, Daniel Day-Lewis (“Phantom Thread”), was conspicuously absent. Did SAG voters get screeners for the late-breaking films in time?
Below, see a sampling of our reader’s diverse cheers and jeers, and then be sure to join the free-wheeling discussion in our forums.
Best Film Ensemble
aahoto: The Post completely snubbed, holy shit!
Foolio: I haven’t been this happy about being wrong in a long time. Beyond happy for Kaluuya and Lady Bird, Get Out, Mudbound, and The Big Sick.
Philip: So they didn’t see The Post. Wtf Denzel and Steve Carell? Kaluuya is horrible. Who would have thought that the Globes would have the better nods.
PJ Edwards: I don’t even care about my score. Lady Bird is in it to win it! And NONE for the boring history lesson the post.
moviefan61794: Mess @ The Post AND The Shape of Water AND Call Me By Your Name all taking major hits today. This is a fucking amazing awards season.
ETPhoneHome: SNUUBBBBBS!!! No Daniel Day Lewis, The Post shut out, Neither supporting from Call Me By Your Name, and those are just off the top of my head… Just WOW.
M: Denzel has Globe and SAG support. Eat it haters.
Heart of Cinema: DDL & Streep aren’t winning Oscars this year.
Hoster1: They snubbed Streep. Hallelujah
MultipleOscarWinner: They don’t fuck around with late screeners. LOL. Streep and Hanks chances are DOA. I don’t know how it’ll do for the movie, though (it needed the nominations ’cause of the stat to win).
pierremg: Meryl haters don’t get so excited. She’ll get an Oscar nod for sure. I don’t know what happened with the SAG this year, but this is just not realistic.
Best Supporting Actor
Marcus Snowden (The Artist Formerly Known as msnowden1): I don’t have much of an issue with Carell’s nod. I just thought it would be for Last Flag Flying, not Battle of the Sexes.
EmmyWinner: Steve Carell is the new Alicia Vikander. Oh God.
aahoto: Wish I’d gone with my gut 6 hours ago on Harrelson! Everyone loves him.
Best Supporting Actress
Marcus Snowden (The Artist Formerly Known as msnowden1): Blige is coming for that Oscar nod! Haddish snubbed again, though.
EmmyWinner: HONG CHAAAAAAAAUUUU
