Sam Smith is Billboard’s top artist of the week with number-one album ‘The Thrill of It All’ & rising single

Sam Smith is the top artist of the week on Billboard. The British singer-songwriter rose to the top thanks to the release of his second album, “The Thrill of It All,” which debuted at number-one on the Billboard 200 with 237,000 equivalent album units (including traditional album sales, track sales, and streams). That album release also gave Smith a big boost on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, where his “Too Good at Goodbyes” jumped from number-10 to number-four, which is a new high for the breakup song.

That wasn’t enough for Smith to unseat the reigning champ on the Hot 100, “Rockstar” by Post Malone featuring 21 Savage, which is the top single for the fifth week in a row. Camila Cabello‘s single “Havana” featuring Young Thug holds steady at number-two, while former chart-topper “Bodak Yellow” by Cardi B maintains its number-three position. “The Thrill of It All” was released on November 3, so it won’t be eligible for Grammy consideration this year; the eligibility period was over September 30. But “Too Good at Goodbyes” was released before the cutoff date, so it could be a contender for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, both of which Smith won for “Stay with Me” in 2015. As of this writing Smith is on the bubble for a nomination in the Song category according to our predictions, ranked sixth with 13/2 odds. Do you think the success of his sophomore album indicates strength at the upcoming Grammys?
