‘Sense8’: Our readers respond to ‘utterly devastating’ cancellation by Netflix

On June 1 Netflix announced its decision to cancelSense8,” the sci-fi series about a group of eight disparate individuals around the world who share a psychic link and are being hunted by a mysterious organization. It lasted two seasons between 2015 and 2017 and had one of the most diverse casts of any series on TV or online, with characters spanning gender, sexual and ethnic spectrums.

The international production made “Sense8” one of the more expensive shows on Netflix’s roster, so sheer cost likely played some role in the decision, as with another high-budget series, “The Get Down,” which was also discontinued recently. But our readers are still reacting to the news in our message boards. Check out some of their comments below, and join the discussion in our forums. Then vote in our poll at the bottom of this post to let us know if you think “Sense8” should get a proper farewell.

LaChienne: “I’m genuinely disappointed. So much story left untold and for all its faults it was a really good Netflix property. What a shame.”

leothescorpio: “I. Am. Shattered. My life is over. It’s been fun. Bye.”

jacob121: “At the end of the day I really can’t blame Netflix from axing this, but I am just really disappointed that a rushed finale and silly cliffhanger is the last we’ll get. Mostly, I just hope that they take the money they now have from canceling this, and ‘The Get Down’ and re-invest in more interesting ideas and not another 10 Adam Sandler movies.”

Hunterbergfeld: “I could imagine Netflix tying up all the loose plot threads with a movie.”

t-clark: “Utterly devastating after two stellar seasons of TV.”

Icky: “I only watched the first five episodes of season one. Didn’t get its appeal beyond sex scenes and preaching-to-the-choir basic themes. But I feel bad for its super passionate fan base.”
