‘Silicon Valley’ teases season 4 break-up of Pied Piper team

HBO is teasing the April 23 return of its Emmy-winning comedy “Silicon Valley.” At the end of season three, all seemed to be well with our gang of misfits. Erlich (T.J. Miller) and Big Head (Josh Brener) had taken control of the company, which they plan to shift into a video chat service.

However, as Richard (Thomas Middleditch) reveals in the trailer above, he is leaving to “build a new Internet.”  And he wants the rights to the name “Pied Piper.” While most of his colleagues, including Monica (Amanda Crew) think he sounds like he has lost the plot, Jared (Zach Woods) soon joins him in pursuit of this dream, impossible as it may appear. After they set up shop in a garage, the pair of pals are so convinced that they will succeed in their quest that they take turns practicing their victory chants.

Over the course of its first three seasons, “Silicon Valley” reaped an impressive 23 Emmy nominations for HBO including three consecutive bids for Best Comedy Series, losing to “Modern Family” in 2014 and “Veep” in both 2015 and 2016. While it took till last year for it win any Emmys — it claimed Best Production Design and Best Picture Editing (2015) — it could be poised for a breakthrough at the upcoming awards. It is coming off back-to-back wins for Best Comedy Series at the Critics Choice TV Awards.
