‘So You Think You Can Dance’ top 9: Which contestant had the best solo routine?

On Monday’s edition of “So You Think You Can Dance,” the top 9 each performed twice — once with their all-star partner and a second time as a solo act. One of these finalists was eliminated based on the vote count from last week’s show. Read more about that in our recap of the August 21 episode of “SYTYCD.”

Votes cast by the public this week will determine which of the remaining nine contestants is bounced from the show next Monday. Which of them shone the brightest in the solo spotlight? Vote in our poll below and weigh in with your thoughts in the comments section.

Two dancers performed contemporary dance routines:

Logan Hernandez did a dance to “Otherside” by Perfume Genius; and

Koine Iwasaki did a dance to “Confidently Lost” by Sabrina Claudio.

Two dancers performed dance routines that combined contemporary and hip-hop elements:

Lex Ishimoto did a dance to “TRNSTTR (Lucian Remix)” by Black Coast featuring M. Maggie; and

Kaylee Millis did a dance to “Wait For You” by Elliot Yamin.

And five dancers performed dance routines that each had their own style of music:

Inyoung “Dassy” Lee did a popping dance routine to “Soundclash” by Flosstradamus & TroyBoi;

Kiki Nyemchek did a Latin ballroom dance routine to “Love Potion #9” by The Coasters;

Taylor Sieve did a jazz dance routine to “Escalate” by Tsar B;

Sydney Tormey did a ballroom dance routine to “Bla Bla Bla Cha Cha Cha” by Petty Booka; and

Mark Villaver did a breakdance dance routine to “I See Fire” by Ed Sheeran.
