Ciera Eastin voted out her own mom. No one else in the history of “Survivor” can claim that, nor would many want to. With that kind of ruthless game play under her belt, fans of March 8’s “Survivor: Game Changers” will be watching Ciera closely. Can she make it to the end on this her third time, and if so, how many figurative “moms” will she take out along the way? Read my analysis of Ciera’s chances below and then make your own “Survivor” predictions ahead of the first episode.
Ciera previously finished in fifth place on “Survivor: Blood vs. Water” (Season 27) thanks in part to voting out her mother Laura Morett, and then she came in 10th place when America voted her into the all-stars version “Survivor: Second Chance” (Season 31). In both seasons, Ciera’s strength as a player was what she called “social maneuvering.” She had a knack for finding cracks in alliances and then having those people vote her way.
Despite an excellent game in “Blood vs. Water” that resulted in her making it to the season finale, Ciera has never been able to live down the fact that she voted out her mom. It went down in “Survivor” history as one of the most cutthroat moves the game has ever seen. But the funny thing is, Ciera’s vote really had no impact that night. Whether or not she voted out Laura, Laura still would have been sent home. So in reality, Ciera’s game move was less about voting out her mother and more about showing her tribe that she understood their decision.
In “Second Chance,” Ciera was eliminated on a technicality when Jeremy Collins used his hidden immunity idol to save Stephen Fishbach, who actually earned the most votes that night. So while Ciera took some comfort in knowing she wasn’t supposed to go home, her torch still ended up being snuffed. This time around, Ciera will have to watch out for the abundance of hidden idols and make sure that her name is never written down on the off chance that one happens to be played.
