Sandra Diaz-Twine is to “Survivor” what Meryl Streep is to awards shows. This two-time champ has won more than anyone else in her field and is regarded by fans and competitors alike as simply the best. With the biggest of all targets on her back for “Survivor: Game Changers,” premiering March 8 on CBS, can Sandra pull off another jawdropper? Or will this 41-year-old player be one of the first voted out? Read my analysis of Sandra’s chances below and then make your own “Survivor” predictions ahead of the first episode.
Sandra previously prevailed on both “Survivor: Pearl Islands (Season 7) and “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains” (Season 20), but she hasn’t played the game in eight years. It’ll be interesting to see how Sandra is able to adapt to all of the new twists and turns that Jeff Probst no doubt has in store for her and the other 19 castaways, including hidden idols, secret advantages, tribe switches, etc.
Interestingly enough, Sandra’s strategy has always been akin to, “As long as it isn’t me.” She has no trouble turning on allies if it means getting further in the game. That’s a key reason why she was put on the Villains tribe back in Season 20 — a tribe that she didn’t necessarily seem right for at the time. Perhaps Sandra will embrace more of her villainous nature in Season 34, especially now that she’s going into the game as the biggest threat in “Survivor” history.
Sandra is the only returning player from “Pearl Islands” and one of three to return from “Heroes vs. Villains,” the others being Cirie Fields and James “J.T.” Thomas. Both Cirie and J.T. are starting out on the rival Nuku tribe, so if they’re looking to enact revenge on Sandra for beating them in Season 20, they will have to wait for the merge because Sandra is a member of the Mana tribe.
