Wednesday night the 35th season of “Survivor” comes to an end with the final five fighting for immunity, a mysterious final advantage in the game and the chance to sit in front of the jury and argue their case to take home the $1 million prize and title of “sole Survivor.” After making some bold moves to take control of the Heroes-Hustlers alliance a few weeks ago, Devon Pinto has emerged as a late-blooming frontrunner to win, but may have hit a snag in his jury management after turning on and voting out his closest ally, Ashley Nolan.
Below I take a look at Devon’s current odds in our finale predictions event and provide a quick analysis of what it’ll take for Devon to win. Do you think he can do it? Sound off in the comments!
In the early part of the game Devon did exactly what every great “Survivor” player does — he laid low and let other players put targets on their own backs. During his brief time with the Hustlers tribe he made a day one alliance with Ryan Ulrich and then sat back while Lauren Rimmer settled personality disputes with other players that were ultimately voted out. When he was switched to the Levu tribe as the only Hustler, he had the convenient position of being between two pairs that needed his vote and once the tribe was down to four was able to avoid a looming tie vote by winning immunity challenges. In many ways, Devon’s early game is defined by the convenience of his circumstances, but his late game has been anything but that.
Over the last few weeks Devon has emerged as one of the power players of the late game, successfully organizing a blindside against Ryan and Chrissy Hofbeck in order to take control of the numbers within the Heroes-Hustlers alliance of seven. He did that with Lauren and Ashley Nolan, his closest allies, but they’ve since been voted out, joining what could be Devon’s jury. But Ashley’s elimination came at the hands of everyone, including Devon, which could sour her and other members of the jury to the badge of loyalty to Ashley that Devon once wore proudly. But despite the chance that Devon may have to atone for that betrayal, Derbyites continue to predict Devon as the ultimate winner giving him leading 3/2 odds for 1st place.
