Wednesday night on CBS, self-described “city girl” Simone Nguyen was blindsided by her Hustlers tribe, causing her to be the second castaway eliminated on “Survivor” 35. (Read our recap of Episode 2, titled “I’m a Wild Banshee.”) Originally from Worcester, MA, this current New York City diversity advocate felt out of place in Fiji because she’d never even been camping before. After a poor challenge showing in which she failed to solve a sign post puzzle, Simone’s tribe voted unanimously to send her packing. Will you miss Simone on the show? The writing was on the wall for the 25-year-old when Ryan Ulrich and Devon Pinto, arguably the leaders of the Hustlers tribe, admitted that they felt a connection with everyone except for Simone. Virtually absent from last week’s Season 35 premiere, Simone had a lot of screen time in the second episode, which is often a foreboding sign.
Simone felt like the Hustlers tribe was the right one for her because she’s good under pressure, however the only person she truly bonded with was Ali Elliott. In truth, Ali saw Simone as someone she could use to get further in the game because she had no allies. That game move never came to fruition, though, because Ali joined with Ryan, Devon, Lauren Rimmer and Patrick Bolton to send Simone home.
One of Simone’s more memorable “Survivor” quotes was when she complained about not having air conditioning on the island. It certainly would have been fun to see her grow as a castaway as the episodes progressed, but alas, it wasn’t meant to be.
