On “The Escape Hatch Identification,” Thursday’s episode of “The Big Bang Theory,” Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) get a new housemate when Raj (Kunal Nayyar) takes over Sheldon’s old room. Turns out Raj’s parents have cut him off and he can no longer afford his luxe lifestyle.
Leonard fears telling Sheldon (Jim Parsons) that he and Penny have taken pity on the poor boy and taken him in. When he does sum up the courage to confess, he is shocked by Sheldon’s carefree response. Indeed, he can’t help but observe, “I think it’s nice that you’re taking whatever medication Amy is clearly giving you.”
However, Sheldon says that he is perfectly fine with Raj putting down stakes in his one-time digs. Indeed, he chides Leonard, “If you’re implying that I have some problem with him moving into my old room, you’re wrong.”
Leonard is so stymied by Sheldon’s indifference that he reaches out to his mother, Beverly, for some advice. Of course, when your mother is a psychiatrist, deftly played by Christine Baranski, you have to take this with a pillar of salt. No surprise that Baranksi has reaped multiple Emmy bids for this scene-stealing performance. Perhaps this is the episode that finally wins her Best Comedy Guest Actress.
