‘The Dark Tower’ trailer: Idris Elba vs. Matthew McConaughey in a deadly shoot-out

“I do not shoot with my hand, I shoot with my mind. I do not kill with my gun, I kill with my heart,” says Idris Elba in the new international trailer for “The Dark Tower” (watch it above). Sony Pictures premiered the trailer on July 10 in advance of the film’s scheduled release on August 4.

“The Dark Tower” is based on a series of eight books by famed horror author Stephen King that spanned 30 years for 1982-2012. Elba plays the lead character — Roland Deschain, also known as the Gunslinger — who is sworn to protect the title tower, “which is all that stands between light and darkness.” Matthew McConaughey co-stars as the Man in Black, who is bent on destroying it.

The film adaptation is helmed by Nikolaj Arcel, a BAFTA nominee for his screenplay from the original Swedish adaptation of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” from 2009. He also directed the Danish film “The Royal Affair” (2012) starring Mads Mikkelsen and Alicia Vikander, which earned an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.
