‘The Voice’ blind audition: Dynamic, powerful Aliyah Moulden sings ‘Hound Dog’ [WATCH]

With “The Voice” returning for Season 12 this week, our writer John Benutty analyzes the six artists with his power rankings for the second round of blind auditions on Tuesday. His top choice is Aliyah Moulden, a California native who tackled “Hound Dog.” He says: “Though she’s only 15 years old, Moulden has a lot of experience under her belt already. Moulden’s voice is dynamic and powerful, but I was most impressed by the confidence she exudes on stage. Why did it take so long for Gwen Stefani and Alicia Keys to turn around?! Maybe if they hadn’t waited so long Moulden wouldn’t have joined Team Blake Shelton.”

For one of this season’s major contenders, here is her official NBC bio: “Aliyah is being raised solely by her mother since her father passed away from lung cancer when she was only one month old. Music helped Aliyah find herself in high school, and her mother signed her up for vocal lessons. She has opened for Caroline Sunshine, Todrick Hall and Jesse McCartney. This past summer, she sang in the BET Experience at the L.A. Convention Center.”
