Blake Shelton is close to winning his sixth coaching championship for “The Voice” on Tuesday night. Or it could be his fiercest rival Adam Levine taking a fourth title. Or how about Miley Cyrus prevailing for the first time? We already know that Jennifer Hudson will not win since her team members were eliminated a week ago. Season 13 of “The Voice” has its big live finale with an all-star lineup and many of this year’s top contestants returning for the last time.
For Monday’s two-hour performance finale, we were live blogging as each of the remaining four singers took the stage. Over the weekend, we provided full spotlight articles about each contender (click each name for those items): Addison Agen (Team Adam), Chloe Kohanski (Team Blake), Red Marlow (Team Blake), and Brooke Simpson (Team Miley). In a very odd occurrence, Miley actually claimed both Chloe and Addison as artists on her team from the very beginning but then let them go during head-to-head contests.
Don’t miss our live blog below for the results finale episode on Tuesday, December 19. We’ve got minute-by-minute analysis of everything that happens in this two-hour episode on NBC hosted by Carson Daly. Give your own thoughts in the comments section at the bottom of this article.
8:00 p.m. – A champion will be crowned on Season 13 of “The Voice” tonight and it could be a nail-biter! The final four dominated the top 10 on iTunes last night led by Addison’s #1 original song, “Tennessee Rain.” She also hit #5 with “Humble and Kind.” Her duet of “Falling Slowly” with Adam peaked at #9 but duets with coaches don’t count as votes. Right behind Addison was Chloe with her performances of “Wish I Didn’t Love You” and “Bette Davis Eyes” reaching #2 and #7, respectively. Red managed to reach #3 with “I Pray” while Brooke rounded things out with “O Holy Night” at #4 and “What is Beautiful” at #8. But the majority of votes come from Facebook and “The Voice” app so we will have to wait until the end of the show for the winner to be revealed. Let’s get started!
8:05 p.m. – Before the star-studded lineup begins, it looks as though they are re-airing last night’s performances to fill more time. I’ll continue regular updates following the conclusion of these re-caps.
9:02 p.m. – Now it’s showtime! Things kicked off with Blake spoofing “Back to the Future” on his way to the finale. Blake has become the absolute centerpiece of this series. The coaches then all emerged onto the stage. Miley and Jennifer look like they came from a Disney princess costume party.
9:06 p.m. – Adam Cunningham and Keisha Renee joined up-and-coming singing sensation Bebe Rexha for her latest single “Meant to Be” to begin the performances. It’s always fun to see the eliminated contestants come back and enjoy more time in the limelight with established artists. Keisha sounds better than her collaborators so hopefully there is a record executive watching somewhere looking for an artist to sign.
9:15 p.m. – Multi-platinum singer/songwriter Charlie Puth was next to visit “The Voice” stage to promote his song “How Long.” Adam is passionately playing guitar on stage right while a quartet of rejected singers from the ABC series “Boy Band” serve as background singers. Good for them for grabbing that gig!
9:25 p.m. – Addison was joined by Norah Jones to sing the classic “Don’t Know Why.” What a perfect singer to join this teenager! They sound great together as Norah plays the piano and Addison stands across from her at the microphone.
9:30 p.m. – Season favorite Noah Mac returned with an opportunity to sing “World Gone Mad” with British indie band, Bastille. This was a smart collaboration for Noah because the style is right in his wheelhouse. But I don’t like it, sorry! I feel like the fiery passion pouring from their bodies is over-exaggerated for the average vocals accompanying it.
9:38 p.m. – Three-time Grammy winner and next season’s newest coach, Kelly Clarkson, is on stage now with the debut TV performance of her song “Medicine.” Kelly always sounds great and tonight is no different, but this song might have to grow on me. She was fantastic as a mentor earlier this season and it will be fun to watch as a coach in Season 14.
9:40 p.m. – Another coach next season, Alicia Keys, hopped up on stage to introduce last season’s champion, Chris Blue, for the performance of his new single “Blue Blood Blues.” He’s dressed like he’s in the Wild West with a set design of a saloon in the backdrop. This song is so HOT! It reminds me of Prince. I have missed having an artist like Chris this season. There was no shortage of talent this year, but Chris is an all-around entertainer. I hope this song is a hit for him. I look forward to the album!
9:53 p.m. – Sia and Brooke are up now singing the nine-time Grammy winner’s hit “Titanium.” Brooke is in a simple dress while Sia performs from inside a life-sized doll box wearing a giant bow and a rainbow skirt. Nothing to see here folks! Vocally they are killing it though and Brooke is holding her own next to the superstar. Bravo!
10:00 p.m. – Team J-Hud’s Chris Weaver has been invited back to the show for a first on “The Voice.” He’s coming back in full drag as his alter ego, Nedra Bell, with his drag sisters! YAAAASSSS!! “The Voice” meets “RuPaul’s Drag Race”! They’re performing “Bang Bang” by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj. I think this might be the best thing I’ve ever witnessed on a finale! If it weren’t epic enough already, Jessie J herself joined in for the vocal showdown. Just to be clear, these queens were not lip syncing for their lives, they were SAAANGIN! Unbelievable.
10:07 p.m. – From one “wow” moment to the next, the one and only Billy Idol requested to sing with Chloe on tonight’s finale. They’re singing his rock anthem “White Wedding.” Is that the grim reaper on guitar? I love the dark, old-school rock vibe of it all. How have we as a people let rock music die on pop radio? This is proof of why we need it back. How fun! Chloe can hardly believe she just sang with the rock legend.
10:15 p.m. – Jennifer and Miley presented the finalists with keys to their very own 2018 Toyota Camrys. Congrats y’all! Addison doesn’t even have a learner’s permit.
10:20 p.m. – The music keeps on coming and up next is Demi Lovato with the title track off her new album, “Tell Me You Love Me.” The stage designers of this series are amazing and make me laugh at the same time. “Demi needs a giant tree behind her. That should tie it all together.”
10:28 p.m. – Jessie J is back with another Team J-Hud castoff, Davon Fleming to perform her new single “Not My Ex.” Sing in your full voice Davon, enough with the falsetto! Unlike other stars promoting themselves I won’t mention, Jessie J didn’t fall victim to being outsung by a “Voice” contestant.
10:35 p.m. – Red has the pleasure of singing with country legend Vince Gill on one of his biggest songs, “When I Call Your Name.” A perfect way to end the season for Red, who has paid homage to classic country music all season.
10:42 p.m. – Former coach on “The Voice” Pharrell Williams returned with his band N.E.R.D. to liven things up with their new single “Lemon.” It’s a twerk-fest on stage and I don’t mind! Rihanna can be heard on vocals during the dance break but unfortunately she didn’t make an appearance.
10:47 p.m. – We’re about 15 minutes away from finding out who the winner is, but first Sia is back to spread Christmas cheer with “Snowman.” Cheer might not have been the right word. I’m ready for results!
10:54 p.m. – The final four have emerged on stage for the nerve-wrecking results! In fourth place is…Red. It’s an all-female top three. And all were original members of Team Miley. Impressive! In third place is…Brooke.
10:59 p.m. – The winner of “The Voice” is Chloe Kohanski! The 23-year old rocker from Tennessee is your Season 13 champ and will join the Las Vegas residency of alums. 16-year old Addison Agen came in second. What a season! Congrats to Chloe on a well-deserved win! This was the second season in a row that the artist with the #1 hit on iTunes came in second place. Remember that stat next year! We will look forward to picking things up next season when Alicia Keys and Kelly Clarkson join Blake Shelton and Adam Levine in the coaching chairs.
