‘The Voice’ knockouts: Esera Tuaolo takes down Adam Cunningham with ‘Superstar’ performance [WATCH]

The knockouts finally began this week on “The Voice” Season 13, with Esera Tuaolo performing Luther Vandross‘s “Superstar” for Team Blake Shelton. Tuaolo was paired up against Adam Cunningham, with Tuaolo proving victorious and knocking out Cunningham, who was later stolen by Adam Levine. Watch Tuaolo’s winning performance from “The Voice” knockouts above.

Back in his blind audition, Tuaolo performed “Rise Up” and had two coaches turn their chairs around: Shelton and Jennifer Hudson. The next time we saw Tuaolo in the battle rounds, he and Rebecca Brunner sang “This I Promise You” and Tuaolo was declared the winner by his coach Shelton. Special adviser Kelly Clarkson helped Tuaolo and all of the other remaining artists in the knockouts. At the end of this round only 20 artists will remain and perform in the live shows.

Tuaolo is 48 years old and currently resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Here’s the official NBC bio: “Esera was raised in Hawaii but currently lives in Minneapolis. In 1991, he was drafted into the NFL where he played defensive tackle for the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons. In 1998, Esera played in the NFC Championship game for the Falcons and then the Super Bowl XXXIII against the Denver Broncos. During his time in the NFL, he was known as “Mr. Aloha” because he sang in the locker rooms and once sang the national anthem before a game. Esera is gay and, at 32 years old, left the NFL to come out to his family. Now, being able to pursue a singing career at 48, he has the opportunity to finally be true to himself.”
