‘The Voice’ Top 12 live shows: Red Marlow’s ‘Church on Cumberland Road’ proves he’s a classic country artist [WATCH]

Night 1 of the live shows aired Monday night on “The Voice” Season 13, with country artist Red Marlow representing Team Blake Shelton in the Top 12. Marlow once again put his own take on a classic country song, this time crooning Shenandoah‘s “The Church on Cumberland Road” that he dedicated to his father. Do you think Marlow did good enough to advance to the Top 11? Watch Marlow’s performance from “The Voice” 2017 live shows above.

Our writer Denton Davidson live-blogged the episode, and as he noted, “Red is playing guitar on the stage and singing as if he’s in a jam session at the local pub. His voice is pure consistency although I’m not sure if this is a ‘moment’ for him. It shows a fun side and he’s relaxed on stage, but this isn’t one of those epic performances viewers will remember weeks from now. I think he catered to his fan base though.”

Back in his blind audition, Marlow performed “Swingin'” and two of the coaches turned their chairs around: Shelton and Miley Cyrus. The next time we saw Marlow in the battle rounds, he and Ryan Scripps sang “Fishin’ in the Dark” and Marlow was declared the winner by his coach Shelton. In the knockouts Marlow was paired up against Megan Rose, with Marlow proving victorious thanks to his rendition of “Outskirts of Heaven.” Finally, Marlow’s rendition of “Chiseled in Stone” in the playoffs was good enough to send him through to the live shows.

Marlow is 40 years old and currently resides in Dickson, Tennessee. Here’s the official NBC bio: “Red is as country as it gets, with a love of skeet shooting, fishing and hunting. His dad is a preacher, so growing up he was exposed to a lot of bluegrass and gospel. At 22, Red decided to move to Nashville to further his music career and ended up becoming a demo singer. He was fortunate to make a living singing songs for songwriters for about 15 years, but being a musician is difficult and he’s struggled to break through as a solo artist. Recently, Red took a step back from music in order to support his family. He started his own construction company called Mr. Fix All, and though he enjoys it, The Voice has given him one last shot to see if he can make music his full-time job.”
