‘The Walking Dead’ preview: ‘New Best Friends’ introduces junkyard group [WATCH]

The preview for next Sunday’s “The Walking Dead,” titled “New Best Friends,” begins with Rick (Andrew Lincoln) surrounded by the mysterious new group from Sunday’s mid-season opener. By the looks of it, these junkyard dwellers aren’t friendly. Watch AMC’s preview trailer above for “The Walking Dead” Season 7, Episode 10.

Rick and the group are led through a maze-like palace of scrap metal as an armed group swarms around them. A woman, likely the leader of this junkyard clan, states, “We own your lives. Wanna buy them back?” Perhaps this new group needs assistance or trade instead of a fight.

“The Saviors, they own our lives,” Rick responds to the woman. “And they will come looking. But there is a way out.” Rick could have been speaking about his own people, but given the scope of Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) rule, it is entirely likely that this community serves The Saviors, too. A shot later in the preview depicts this woman and Rick standing together atop a trash heap, so perhaps the two form a shaky alliance. After failing to gain support from The Kingdom, Rick will need all the manpower he can muster if he wants to challenge Negan.

There is still hope for King Ezekiel (Khary Payton) to join the fight, and the second half of the trailer centers on his community. His right-hand man Richard (Karl Makinen) is clearly not happy with the King’s decision. He tells Daryl (Norman Reedus) that they “want the same things” before taking him on some scavenging trip together. Will these two be able to work together to change Ezekiel’s mind, or come up with a plan of their own?

Speaking of Ezekiel, why is he at Carol’s (Melissa McBride) doorstep looking so angry? It remains to be seen how Carol will fit into the war with The Saviors, if at all. But Ms. Peletier knows a thing or two about blowing up a base, so here’s hoping she swoops in to save the day once more. We will have to wait until “New Best Friends” airs Sunday, February 19 to see if Carol joins the fray.
