‘The Walking Dead’ episode 9 preview: ‘Rock in the Road’ sets the stage for revenge [WATCH]

“We already started this, and we’re gonna win.” This voice-over from Rick (Andrew Lincoln) brings an empowered tone to AMC’s preview for the mid-season return of “The Walking Dead,” airing February 12. After spending the first half of the season devastated from human casualties and feeling helpless against the threat of The Saviors, our band of survivors is finally ready to fight back in “Rock in the Road.” Watch the preview trailer for Season 7, Episode 9 above.

The mid-season finale concluded with Rick and a core group of Alexandrians reuniting with Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) at the Hilltop Colony. With a shot of the group walking away from the central house in Hilltop, the premiere might pick up right where we left our characters in December. Hopefully Rick can convince the people in that settlement to join the fight against Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

The most exciting moment in the promo is the reveal of Rick and company visiting The Kingdom for the first time. Rick stands before the eccentric King Ezekiel (Khary Payton), making a pitch to join forces. “Alexandria, Hilltop, and The Kingdom. Our communities have something in common. We all serve The Saviors,” he says. Obtaining the forces of The Kingdom could be essential for any type of coup. After all, Ezekiel is looking after a pet tiger Shiva, aikido master Morgan (Lennie James), and one-woman wrecking crew Carol (Melissa McBride). The Alexandrians haven’t seen Carol or Morgan since they sought refuge and medical help at The Kingdom last season, so hopefully these two are reunited with the group by episode’s end.

Curiously, the clip offers glimpses of Rick and Michonne (Danai Gurira) tracking someone, or something, in the woods. Moments later the entire group has their weapons drawn. Has Negan already uncovered Rick’s uprising? Or is a new threat lurking nearby? We will find out what stands in the way or Rick’s rebellion when “The Walking Dead” returns on Sunday, February 12.
