When will ‘Ballers’ Season 3 start? Dwayne Johnson and Rob Corddry return to HBO July 23

The 10-episode third season of HBO’s comedy series “Ballers” will debut Sunday, July 23 on the premium cable network. The Season 3 premiere is scheduled to air at 10:00 p.m., with fellow comedy “Insecure” taking the 10:30 p.m. time slot beginning that same night. “Ballers” should benefit in the ratings this season as it’s slotted to air Sundays following TV’s most prestigious show “Game of Thrones,” which will air in the 9:00 p.m. hour beginning one week earlier on July 16.

Created by Steve Levinson, “Ballers” gives football fans a look at the lives of players old and new, with Dwayne Johnson (who also executive producers the comedy) playing the main role of aging superstar Spencer Strasmore. Since leaving the field, Spencer has reinvented himself as a financial manager for current players in Miami, FL.

HBO hasn’t yet confirmed the Season 3 cast, however the notable actors and actresses from last year included the likes of Rob Corddry, John David Washington, Omar Benson Miller, Donovan Carter, Troy Garity, Jazmyn Simon, London Brown, Arielle Kebbel, Dule Hill, Richard Schiff and Andy Garcia.

Last summer Gold Derby’s Matt Noble chatted with Corddry about his role of Joe Krutel, a financial manager for sports stars at Anderson Financial. The actor told us that his character is “always one step below where he wants to be. He has a lot of ambition. He’s also very good at what he does, yet people underestimate him because he’s kind of a buffoon.”

While the Emmy Awards snubbed “Ballers,” it did earn a pair of nominations at the Image Awards for Johnson as Best Comedy Actor in both 2016 and 2017. The first two seasons of “Ballers” averaged a 64 score at Metacritic and a 68.5% at Rotten Tomatoes.
