Will Poulter (‘Detroit’) reveals he doesn’t ‘pull any punches’ to play racist ‘terrifyingly ignorant’ police officer in 1967 [EXCLUSIVE VIDEO]

“I didn’t want to pull any punches,” reveals Will Poulter during our recent webcam chat (watch the exclusive video above) when asked about his role in “Detroit.” Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, this Annapurna Pictures release recounts the 1967 Detroit riots, centering around the murder of three black men during an all-night raid at the Algiers Motel. Poulter plays Krauss, an aggressively racist patrolman who terrorizes the motel patrons.

The actor explains that he felt “responsible for exposing this kind of individual. I wanted to do that as unapologetically as possible.” He describes police officer Krauss as “a product of entrenched racism, and for that reason, racism is entrenched in him. It’s a deep-rooted and terrifyingly ignorant thought-structure that informs everything that he does, and the way that he conducts himself.” He hopes the film can help shine a light on current events, adding, “We can’t afford to have racist individuals operate in modern day society, least of all in positions of power, and when it comes to law enforcement.”
